Forbidden Life (Forbidden Trilogy, #3)

A sinister force waits for them in darkness, ready to devour their powers and take their lives.
Sam's baby is the key to a lock that must never be opened. To keep her child safe, Sam will do anything.
Drake might have found a way to get his powers back and save his family, at what cost?
Luke and Lucy uncover secrets in an organization they thought they could trust, and the lives of all Rent-A-Kid children are at stake.
In this last Forbidden Trilogy installment, the secrets to Rent-A-Kid will finally be revealed.
My Review:
We're thrust right away into action packed scenes with Luke and Lucy heading up a mission to save the children who weren't able to escape Rent-A-Kid.  We're also introduced to some new characters as well as some exciting plot twists.

This book does not disappoint in terms of gripping the pages excitement and while I enjoyed the series as a whole, I was left feeling slightly disappointed with this book.  With the ending of Forbidden Fire I was expecting this installment to focus on mending Sam & Drake's relationship and while it touched on it, I was hoping for a more climactic reunion.  Sam and Drake became secondary characters in this novel to Luke, Lucy and Hunter which was slightly confusing as the first two books mainly focused on Sam & Drake.  It was a little hard for me to "get into the book" as I felt there was too much going on...Lucy & Hunter, the sphere, Sam & Drake plus defeating the evil entity that is Sam's father.
With the introduction of new characters and schemes, I felt that this should have been the book leading up to the last book because there was so much going on.

All that being said, the action packed scenes and twists in the plot definitely kept me reading.  Wrought with anticipation and excitement this element of the book will certainly keep you engaged.

Overall it was just okay for me and I'm sad to say that.  I had high hopes for this book.  As a series it's good...lots of action, slightly dystopic with a paranormal twist and a touch of romance.   I enjoyed the intensity of the first two books, the contrast between innocence and evil definitely added depth to the novels.   I definitely recommend this series to those who enjoy dystopia and paranormal reads.

Bookshelf Rating:
3-2
