New York Times Bestselling Author Gena Showalter
Artist Aurora Harper is convinced she's witnessed a crime-a murder so brutal she's repressed the memories, only to paint the scene by the light of the moon. Now she needs her new neighbor, Detective Levi Reid, to help her track down the victim-and the killer. Levi's dealing with his own memory issues, but one thing he knows for sure: Harper is meant to be his, and nothing can take her away from him-not in this life...and not in death....
After Moonrise is definitely a book you'll want to add to you collection. I really liked it, it was something new for me in the paranormal genre...I haven't come across ghost stories written quite like these!
I'll start with Haunted first...
With spunky, snarky and bad-ass characters signature to Gena's style, this short story will have you hooked from page one! I was pleasantly surprised by the intricate & intense plot, it was layers upon layers of mystery, suspense and romance. But the real genius to the story is in the prolouge. It's dark, twisted and frightening. Reeling from the scene the entire time I was reading, I kept wondering "who was that girl?" It didn't take me long to devour Haunted, but then again I devour anything Gena writes because she's that good. The woman's got a way with words!
Aurora Harper is a beautiful young woman and a talented artist on the rise, who happens to be BFF's with Lana, a tough-as-nails paranormal investigator who works for After Moonrise. Lana can see dead people. And Harper keeps painting a gruesome scene from her dreams, and she can't seem to finish the girls face. Enter Levi Reid, a homicide detective who will probably shoot you in the face for looking at him cross and not even blink an eye afterwards. He's all male and no bull! Harper goes to him seeking his help to find out who the mysterious girl is that she keeps painting, they're not sure if the painting is a premonition or if it's already happened and the hunt is on! Has it hooked you yet??!! The great thing about this short story is the element of mystery, it's so pronounced that you've no choice to become invested! Peppered in between the mystery and suspense is the budding romance between Harper & Levi. They are perfect for each other! I enjoyed their interaction as well as some laughable moments between the two.
Brilliantly devised, Haunted is a frighteningly good short story! Loaded with suspense, mystery and romance you are sure to be hooked from page one! I recommend this book to all Gena Showalter fans as well as those who enjoy reading suspense, mystery and ghost stories. A GREAT read all around.
This being my first encounter with P.C. Cast I didn't know what to expect. NO...I haven't been living under a rock! But make no mistake, I will certainly be checking out her other books. I enjoyed possessed, it wasn't as "involved" as Haunted but the story line was clever and original. I very much enjoyed the characters in Possessed as well. We are introduced to After Moonrise, a group of paranormal investigator who each specialize in certain "genres" with the paranormal.
This story was a little flat to me and it took me a few chapters to actually find my rhythm with the story. But once I did, the story flowed smoothly and held my interest. I found the plot to be very clever, with the whole twin thing that hinted at a bit of eroticism as well. Ya'll know I love me some steamy romance!
Possessed was a great introduction to the writings of P.C. Cast as well as a unique short story.
